I had to kiss her in front of some 350 people: Vivek Oberoi

Thursday Mar 18, 2010

Newly turned media savvy Vivek talks candidly about his experiences of working in ‘Prince’ to Pallabi Chatterjee. Read on…

What’s so special about ‘Prince’?
I know the director Kookie since a long time. So once when I was shooting near his place he called me inside and asked if I am interested to do an action film for him.

So you mean just because it’s an action film you accepted it?
No, I asked for the script and was thinking about how boring my day will go! That’s when he showed me previz (previsualiser) which was an animated version of the story on board. I couldn’t believe my eyes and was asking repeatedly if I was going to do these stunts. I mean those were just amazing! Moreover, the belief Kookie and Kumar Taurani (the producer) had on me made me have confidence on myself and the project.

I knew I was not a bankable star and so I was repeatedly asking Kumar Turani, you really want me to do this film?

Any a particula

“I knew I was not a bankable star and so I was repeatedly asking Kumar Turani, you really want me to do this film”

r training you had to undergo for doing those stunts?
Of course, I had to undergo a rigorous training! I used to wake up in the morning, go to the white board with two markers and start practicing writing with both the hands as my character is able to write with both hands. So I had to practice that. Then I used to go to Juhu where many trainers waited for me. There was one trainer each for martial arts, skating board, stunt biking, gym, wire and cable.

Heard you were put on special diet too?
Yes, there was a nutritionist on the set. I was asked to give 3-4 months for this whole training! But once when I saw the previz, I decided to give in 6months of training and the end result was fascinating!

There is anticipation because this is the biggest film in my career in terms of money, role and action!
>
Were you scared?
I am still scared! (laughs out loud). Actually scared is not the proper word. I would say that I am nervous. I am excited. There is anticipation because this is the biggest film in my career in terms of money, role and action! So a lot of things were resting on me. My blood and sweat went into it literally. So yes, I am nervous!

How was your experience working with Kookie?
Let me tell you Kookie is one of the best directors in town, but he is one of the worst narrators also! I have worked with many talented directors, so when I say that Kookie is one of the best it is true in every sense of the term. The thing which I liked in him or the previz was the degree of clarity and precision. He always knew that from which angle he wanted which shot.

So how was it romancing three ladies in reel life?
Ah well, I was expecting this! (winks) We enjoyed working with each other and also had lots of fun off sets. We were all young so the fun factor was high!

What about the hot kissing scene with Aruna Shield?
Hmm, she is a bold girl. She is fearless. During the action sequences I was the one who was comforting her. And during the intimate scenes, she was the one who was cooling me down as I don’t like PDA(s). I had to kiss her in front of some 350 people!

Don’t tell us you were nervous?
I was like hell! This very thought made me go cold. But Aruna was like “Don’t worry! I am there. I have done it before also. Relax!” That time I felt like the heroine of the film! When there is a comfort level between you and your co-star you actually don’t feel awkward. The same thing happened between me and Aruna.

How was it playing reel life thief?
This thief has the ability to steal any damn thing but one day his memory gets stolen! One morning he wakes up and realises that he can’t recall anything. Everybody is after him and he has just six days to live! His time clock is ticking and he has to find out a way to live. It was total action packed but we do have romance in it. But yes, it is a total ceeti maar paisa vasool masala tadka maarke film! It is a global film with global technology and local ideas!
